Chvrches' debut album is a marketing team's dream. It's not difficult to imagine these songs featuring on a Nikon camera ad; the fast-paced Tether would encourage anyone to buy a 36x optical lens, while the urgent synths of We Sink should soundtrack a landmark moment in E4's Made in Chelsea. The record is finely manicured, and Lauren Mayberry's sweet voice makes the songs instantly recognisable. At times it can feel overly polished, but the likes of Science/Visions, Lies and Recover stand head and shoulders above much of music packaged as electropop. Chvrches may occasionally sound like a diluted The Naked and Famous, but by the time the Glaswegian trio release their next album, they'll hopefully have laid off the Mr Sheen and let some dust darken their sound. chvrch.es
