Louis Jones was one to watch when he arrived on the scene trailing wall-of-sound melodies, throwback tunes and a sweet Yorkshire twang to hold it all together. The 21-year-old's debut album is chock-a-block with these qualities as he croons his way through a bunch of songs about love gone right and love gone wrong, all recorded in just a day with producer Richard Formby. There may be a degree of precociousness inherent in such a proposition, but it's to Jones's credit that it never takes from the songs or sound. Instead, he gets on with the job of putting listeners under his spell with beautifully arranged and pitched tales that often come with the sepia-tinged lyricism of a Richard Hawley ( Lockjaw)or the nostaglic melodic wave of The Last Shadow Puppets ( Luck Is There to Be Pushed).
