Debussy: Orchestral Works, Vol 6Naxos 8.572583 * * * *

There are five works in the sixth volume of Jun Märkl's survey of Debussy's orchestral music for Naxos, though none of them is heard in the form that the composer actually left them. Best known are the orchestrations by Henri Büsser of the Petite Suite (originally for piano duet), and Printemps(originally for chorus and orchestra, but, after the original score was lost, Büsser's orchestral reconstruction dispensed with the chorus). Altogether less well known are the orchestrations of the Suite bergamasque(by Gustave Cloez and André Caplet), the late two-piano work En blanc et noir(by Robin Holloway), and the early Symphony in B minor (which survives only as piano duet, here orchestrated by Tony Finno). Büsser and Holloway serve Debussy best on a nicely played disc that offers no stunning revelations but will please completists. See url.ie/af6o
