Donal Gilligan, the distinguished Irish cinematographer who worked on films such as Omaghand Mystics, has died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 46. Earlier this year, Gilligan shot the big-budget ITV science fiction series Primevalwith director Robert Quinn. He also directed episodes of Spooksand Shameless.

“Irish film has lost one of its most talented and loved artists,” Quinn said upon hearing the news. “Donal lit up the lives – no pun intended – of everyone he worked with. The joy and energy Donal brought to his work is unparalleled, and he will be irreplaceable.”

Gilligan, is survived by his wife Charlotte and his four children.
