Captain America strikes back

It’s the summer, so we’re obsessed with box-office figures

It's the summer, so we're obsessed with box-office figures. Last week, we noted the staggering opening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2across the world. With $169.2 million, the film secured the biggest ever opening in US history.

But to many analysts' surprise, the film plunged a shocking 72 per cent on its second week in the US. Captain America: The First Avengereasily beat the juvenile wizard to the top of the "domestic" chart with $66 million to Potter's $48 million. Warner Brothers need not fear. The film is still enormous overseas. Mr Potter managed to take a whopping $121 million on its second week in The Rest of the World.
