Bret Easton Ellis is working hard to make himself unpopular with decent folk. His latest nonsensical outburst on Twitter – after comparing Michael Haneke to Hitler a few months back – found him suggesting that Kathryn Bigelow, director of the highly acclaimed Zero Dark Thirty, is overrated because she is an attractive woman. The tweet read: “Kathryn Bigelow would be considered a mildly interesting film-maker if she was a man but since she’s a very hot woman she’s really overrated.” Yeah, that’s right. Female directors in Hollywood get all the breaks. It’s really a woman’s world. (In case you have lost all critical sensibilities, Bret, we should clarify that we’re being sarcastic.)
