91% Yes vote in Wicklow village

The highest Yes vote in the Wicklow constituency came from Annacurragh, the small village outside Aughrim where two elderly brothers, Mr Tom and Mr Andy Kingston, were attacked twice in one week in October.

Public outrage at the attack, particularly the shooting in the leg of Tom Kingston (79), is a likely reason for the result which saw 170 votes in favour of the constitutional change and just 16 votes against, a Yes vote of 91.3 per cent. The Wicklow constituency returned an overall vote of 75.94 per cent. Just two boxes opened at the count revealed a majority of votes opposed to the bail law changes.
