Shares lost some of their gains in after-hours trading but were still ahead on the day, although US economic figures weighed on bond markets and put a cap on the dollar. Trading was thin due to a public holiday in some German states. Dealers expect the market to consolidate around current levels, with the main downside risk coming from the US in the wake of next week's elections.

Dealers also said a host of German company results next week, including Daimler, may provide the market with some stimulus.

The equity market had been boosted after the December bond future hit a new contract high but then tracked back as profit-taking put the bond under pressure.
