SANDYWAY INVESTMENTS, the company associated with the luxurious Christina Oyacht, saw its accumulated losses drop to €42,807 during 2008, down from €123,830 at the end of the previous year.

The company, which took out a €2 million mortgage from Irish Nationwide in 2000, charged against the yacht formerly owned by the late shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis, had shareholders’ funds of €42,794 at the year’s end. The company also has a mortgage registered between it and solicitor Ivor FitzPatrick and Robert or “Pino” Harris.

Harris is part of the partnership registered in the Cook Islands that bought the yacht in 2000 for €65 million. In 2008 the High Court ruled that he was entitled to claim tax relief on €9 million spent on the yacht.

Nights on board the yacht on the Mediterranean can be booked from £1,500 per night per person, according to the website mariacallasexperience.com.

That’s the cheapest rate for a night, and includes an eight-course dinner and arias by a would-be Maria Callas.

The site says the owners of the yacht are Sandyway and the Christina Limited Partnership, both with an address at the offices of Ivor FitzPatrick’s solicitors, on St Stephen’s Green, Dublin.

The latest annual return for Sandyway says it is owned by solicitor Cormac Gordan, who owns two of its 10 issued shares, and Idyll Investments, which owns the remainder. Idyll Investments is majority owned by FitzPatrick.

Who is in the partnership, apart from Harris, is not known. During the court hearing it was stated that his share was equal to 4 per cent.

For those not up on such matters, the boat is named after the late Christina Onassis, the shipping tycoon’s ill-fated daughter, and the Maria Callas reference arises from the fact she was once the tycoon’s mistress.
