As the deadline for car testing approaches, owners of cars first registered before January 1st, 1992 may have a few questions. National Car Test (NCT): Your Questions Answered has been prepared by the Department of the Environment and local government. The leaflet explains when which cars will be tested and cars that are exempt from the NCT.

A handy map of NCT centres statewide is also provided. According to the brochure, the fee for the NCT will be £35 (€44) with a retest costing £19.80 (both inclusive of VAT). The pamphlet also highlights what will be examined during the test and assurance that the test will be fairly carried out. Offences for not testing a car attract a penalty of up to £350.
