The International Monetary Fund yesterday approved a $542 million stand-by loan to see Ukraine through the pain of overhauling its economy. The IMF said it will provide about $49 million to the former Soviet republic immediately, with the rest handed out in instalments over the next year provided Kiev carries out promised economic reforms.
