INSTEAD of holding a conference with a coffee break, the Institute of Management Consultants in Ireland (IMCI) will later this month hold a four-hour "coffee break". It will revolve around the theme innovative business and feature four speakers from the world of marketing and product development.

The speakers will address the gathering for about 20 minutes, provoking discussion.

"Fifteen or so tables will be arranged to accommodate, on each, eight delegates from all sectors along with two members of the IMCI, one of whom will act as a facilitator," the body said.

The speakers will be: Mr Barry Fitzpatrick, an IMCI member who specialises in assisting his clients to imagine future products or services; Mr Pat Rigney, the managing director of Gilbey's, who was responsible for the launch of Sheridans; Mr Padraic Breathneach, the founder and original director of the Macnas theatre group; and Mr Mark Mortell, the new chairman of Bord Failte.

The IMCI said the idea came when members noticed that people attending traditional conferences and seminars seemed to enjoy the coffee break because it allowed them to meet friends and colleagues, and chat about items of their choice.

The "coffee break" will take place in the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, on the morning of Thursday, April 24th. Information is available from the institute at 6680400.
