Gay Byrne's final Late Late Show was watched by 44 per cent of the adult population. According to figures from Nielsen/Mediaworks, 1,222,000 tuned in, with viewership peaking between 11.30 p.m. and midnight. The previous week's show had an average audience of 27 per cent of adults.
The last show to deliver such a huge audience was the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.
