Mr Slattery’s company, Fergus Slattery Associates, based in Ballsbridge, Dublin, will go into liquidation after a meeting of shareholders which is scheduled for June 22nd.

“I’ve decided to set up a new venture with a more limited function,” he said, declining to go into detail on the new firm.

Companies Office records show that Mr Slattery incorporated a new firm, Fergus Slattery Property Investments Ltd, in February this year.

The firm is involved in the “development and selling of real estate”, according to filings.

Further filings show that the company being wound up by Mr Slattery, Marapi, had shareholders’ funds of €728,182 at the end of 2007, up from €487,970 a year earlier. The firm had €488,918 in cash at that stage.

Mr Slattery ( 60) made his international debut for Ireland while a UCD student in 1970. He was selected for the British and Irish Lions team a year later and continued to play international rugby for more than a decade.
