Credit card company MasterCard is to create 130 jobs in Dublin, with the opening of a new global technology headquarters.

The jobs will be created over the next four years, and will bring to 200 the number of people employed by MasterCard in the State.

Recruitment has already begun for the technology focused roles, and the expansion is being supported by IDA Ireland.

President of Mastercard Technologies Rob Reeg said the expansion and the new team would help further the company’s technology agenda.

“At our core, MasterCard is a technology company that happens to be in the payments space,” he said.

"MasterCard chose Ireland as a place to expand our presence because, from our vantage point, we see consumers moving toward a world beyond cash, shopping and paying for the things that matter to them in ways that best fit their needs and lifestyles with a simple tap, click or touch in-store, online or on a mobile device."

MasterCard opened its Dublin office in 2008, when it acquired technology company Orbiscom.
