Dow slips further ahead of jobs data

THE Dow Jones continued its downward trend yesterday, falling by 0.61 per cent ahead of key jobs figures which will be released today. The Dow, which has taken a battering this week, staged a recovery in late trading to finish 39.66 points lower.

Other international stock markets remained deeply nervous ahead of the US payroll figures, especially after Wall Street opened up yesterday with a 50 point fall.

Price changes in Dublin and London were marginal but the tone in the market was negative with many dealers fearing a substantial sell off, if the key non farm payroll figures come in much ahead of the average forecast of 182,000 new jobs.
