The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Fahey, has said that any gas piped from the Corrib gas field will be brought ashore in Co Mayo.

Following a meeting with Enterprise Oil's general manager in Ireland, Mr John McGoldrick, the Minister said that should further appraisal of the gas field be successful, the possible subsea pipeline landfall sites and onshore terminal sites would be located in Mayo..

Mr Fahey said that issues of environmental impact, safety, cost schedule implications and commercial considerations would all be part of the detailed evaluation of the landfall options which is now underway. He emphasised that the development of the Corrib field is subject to a successful outcome of further appraisal of the gas field.
