Competition offers consumers healthier medical coverage

Those wanting to obtain wider health insurance cover can now choose from a new Options plan range from the VHI, as well as the BUPA range of products. The VHI is now offering subscribers the opportunity to expand their cover for approved heart surgery procedures, increased maternity benefits and emergency dental cover. Special student rates are also being made available.

Naturally BUPA claims that its products remain better value. But the lesson for the consumer appears to be that the entry of the British giant has led to a competitive response from the Irish group and that the result is more choice for the public.
