THE COMPANY behind Barry's Hotel, one of Dublin's oldest hotels and the scene of gunfire shortly after the 1916 Easter Rising, has gone into liquidation.
A meeting of the creditors of Archester Limited, which trades as Barry's Hotel, will take place on December 4th in Dublin, according to a notice published in the Daily Star yesterday.
The meeting will be held in the Kingston Hotel in Dún Laoghaire in order to appoint a liquidator to the company, the notice states.
According to documents filed at the Companies Office, as of the end of August 2008, the company owed creditors a sum of €516,500. Its profit and loss account showed a loss of almost €169,000.
Barry's Hotel's directors are Jane Fahy, Sinéad Fahy and Nora Doyle. During 2008, Sinéad Fahy provided an interest-free loan of €26,000 to the business. Jane Fahy and Ms Doyle have run the hotel since 1999, while Sinéad Fahy became a director in 2001.
Barry's Hotel was opened in 1889 by a Mrs Barry on the site of two Georgian houses in Great Denmark Street that had been occupied by two wealthy Dublin merchants, the hotel website says.
The hotel directors did not return inquiries from The Irish Times yesterday.
