COMPUTER Products in Youghal, Co Cork, expects to create 40 to 50 new jobs this year as sales continue to expand. The company, whose US parent reported a 126 per cent increase in post tax profits to $13.7 million (£8.78 million) for the year ended December 29th, employed 50 new people in 1995, bringing the total to 360.

Mr Gary Duffy, managing director, said European sales grew by over 30 per cent to $50.6 million and 30-40 per cent of revenue now came from power systems developed in Youghal.

"We are selling to people who manufacture mobile communications systems and computer networks.

"That area is likely to continue to grow rapidly, so we are optimistic for our sales," Mr Duffy said.

The company has signed agreements with the National Micro Electronics Research Centre, the University of Limerick and the Government sponsored programme, Power Electronics.
