A total of 315 new jobs are to be generated in 11 separate companies across counties Louth and Monaghan, the Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Mr Bruton, announced yesterday. Forbairt said this represented total investment in new and expanding industry touching £10 million.

"The companies are drawn from a number of diverse but growing sectors," Mr Bruton said, "including internationally traded services, the prepared consumer foods sector, and the construction and consumer products area."

The investments would provide a variety of employment opportunities for a wide mix of skilled people, he said.

The largest number of jobs are to come from an expansion at Mallon Technology in Dundalk, which will see permanent employment rise from 25 to 125. The growth is being supported by a £2.3 million Forbairt investment.

The firm recently acquired a contract to provide Finland with a land parcel identification system. This would involve the design and implementation of an integrated geographic information system", together with the supply of the necessary hardware, software, technical support and training, the minister said.

In Co Monaghan, two new food companies are to be set up in Castleblayney, manufacturing prepared meals. These will employ 73 people.

"In the construction sector, Century Homes, which manufactures timber frame houses, is to expand its existing operation in Co Monaghan, creating 40 extra jobs.
