180 jobs lost in NI bakery closure

Some 180 jobs have been lost with the closure of O'Hara's Bakery in Belfast

Some 180 jobs have been lost with the closure of O'Hara's Bakery in Belfast. The company had announced that it was going into liquidation at the start of the year and the receivers, Grant Thornton, had been attempting to sell the business as a going concern. However, no buyer was found and 28 of the company's shops will close today. Sixty jobs in its Brookvale chilled foods division have been saved. The deputy lord mayor of Belfast, Ulster Unionist councillor Mr Jim Rodgers, described the job losses as "a devastating blow" for the city.
