Dave Bernie's captain's prize at Charlesland proved a real test over the last two weekends.

Played in high winds which made the scoring difficult, the honours on the day went to past captain Kevin Keyes. Nine handicapper Keyes, who was captain in 1993, returned 144 for the 36-hole event to pip Joe Somers (6) by one shot. Keyes will look back on the par four, index one, seventh hole which he birdied as the one that helped in a big way.

Frank Kenny (23) on 146 was third. He was the leading qualifier with a five-under-par 67 on the first day and but for an unfortunate eight at the par four 14th he could have given Keyes a real run for the top prize. The gross prize went to Owen Medcalfe (6) with round of 80 and 81 for 161.
