Weld's duo land an easy double

TRAINER Dermot Weld had two winners from his only two runners at Down Royal yesterday when Shahrur and Lady Shannon both scored easy successes.

Shahrur bolted home by 12 lengths to win the Cabletel Maiden and then Lady Shannon, who started 2 to 5 favourite, won the five furlongs DS Campbell Photography Maiden by two and a half lengths.

Weld was represented by his son Mark, who said: "Lady Shannon will run again at Tipperary in the Topaz Sprint Stakes while Shahrur, who was bought with a view to going hurdling, may stay on the flat for the summer."

The Crumlin, Co Antrim, trainer, Ian Duncan, won the Governors Cup Handicap Chase for the third time when Ballymacrevan made all the running to beat stable mate La Greine. Ballymacraven was scoring on the course for the second time and Duncan said that he would now be rested before going for some major chases in the autumn.

Have A Few Manners ran out an easy 13 length winner for trainer Tony Martin in the Tyrone Crystal Maiden Hurdle and Fallow Trix landed the RVH BiCentenary Handicap Hurdle by eight lengths for trainer Bunny Cox.

At Limerick, Lee Bowles recorded his first winner under flat rules since taking out a trainer's permit in January when Soviet Dreamer made virtually all under Joanna Morgan in the Adare Handicap.

Bowles, who like Morgan originates from Crickhowell in south Wales, opened his training account when Kinnegad Girl landed a bumper at Navan recently.

Curragh trainer Michael Grassick successfully teamed up with leading apprentice Eddie Ahern for a double with Tertia and Rince Abhann.
