A look at the weekend's matches
Bolton v Norwich
While Owen Coyle has the option of giving a first league start to Tuncay Sanli or David Ngog, mass changes are unlikely from the 5-0 loss to Manchester United. Paul Lambert tends to use his squad more and has first-choice keeper John Ruddy available again after suspension.
Odds Bolton 5-6 Norwich 17-4 Draw 13-5
Swansea v WBA
Swansea have lost centre-half Steven Caulker, their loan signing from Tottenham, with cartilage trouble, and Kemy Agustien (hamstring), who has been doing a sterling job in front of the back four. Albion are also without a centre-back, Gabriel Tamas, who is banned. Chris Brunt will have a test on his knee and Zoltan Gera (ankle) is definitely out.
Odds Swansea 19-11 West Brom 2-1 Draw 23-10
Wolves v QPR
Steven Fletcher, is a doubt with a groin injury while Matt Jarvis is struggling with his ankle. QPR could have some problems in defence as Bradley Orr and Armand Traore have doubts over their hamstrings. Still, they have plenty of reinforcements, QPR have used 26 players so far, the most in the Premier League.
Odds Wolves 10-11 QPR 10-3 Draw 13-5
Sunderland v Stoke
Jon Walters has started every league game but may miss out as he has to compete with record signing Peter Crouch, Kenwyne Jones, and new recruit Cameron Jerome. Summer signing Connor Wickham could make his first start for Sunderland alongside Arsenal loanee Nicklas Bendtner.
Odds Sunderland 6-4 Stoke 23-10 Draw 12-5
Man U v Chelsea
Manchester United have won their last three matches with Chelsea in all competitions. Andre Villas-Boas must hope for impact even if the line-up is accused of being one-paced. Didier Drogba remains out with concussion while Michael Essien is not expected to return from injury until February.
Odds Man Utd 11-13 Chelsea 4-1 Draw 29-10
Aston Villa v Newcastle
Villa’s front trio of Darren Bent, Charles NZogbia and Gabriel Agbonlahor have the wherewithal to puncture a Newcastle defence that, partially through luck, has conceded just once in four league matches. It’s difficult to see the visitors outscoring Villa. Newcastles unbeaten streak to end.
Odds Aston Villa 10-11 Newcastle 7-2 Draw 5-2
Fulham v Man C
City look to have benefited from the extra day of recovery time from European exploits with few injuries to concern them, while the hosts have several problems. Dickson Etuhu, Aaron Hughes and both Riise brothers are all struggling to be fit, while Simon Davies will not return until November.
Odds Fulham 6-1 Man City 6-13 Draw 3-1
Everton v Wigan
Royston Drenthe scored for Evertons reserves on Wednesday night and is likely to start against Wigan. With Antolín Alcaraz and Steve Gohouri out through injury and Emmerson Boyce doubtful with a hamstring strain, Roberto Martinez has few defensive options.
Odds Everton 4-7 Wigan 13-2 Draw 3-1
Tottenham v Liverpool
Spurs early-season form has been dubious and if they are to end their six-month recession then a win against a team whom they beat twice last season would be a start. This is a big game for Kenny Dalglish, too – the Liverpool manager seemed disproportionately vexed after the defeat by Stoke.
Odds Tottenham 19-11 Liverpool 20-11 Draw 12-5
Blackburn v Arsenal
Confident, free-flowing play is unlikely to be on show given the brittle state of these sides. Arsene Wenger accepts his side’s recovery from their 8-2 thrashing is not yet complete. Blackburn, meanwhile, are stuck in last place having failed to win any of their opening four league games.
Odds Blackburn 18-5 Arsenal 10-11 Draw 13-5
