This evening's racing is at Roscommon but the action gets underway at the Curragh this morning when Frankie Dettori travels to the Turf Club to appeal against the 12-day ban he picked up on Derby day.

Dettori is appealing against a seven-day suspension for wearing a defective body protector and another five days picked up for improper riding on Altibr in the Group Two International Stakes.

The Italian made his feelings about the bans known on the day and also last week when he described them as "an absolute joke." Dettori will be represented by lawyer Andrew Coonan who in 1996 won an appeal for Willie Carson who had received a suspension for wearing an unapproved helmet on the Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Matiya.

The action in Britain this week centres on Newmarket's July meeting but Aidan O'Brien's juvenile strength at the meeting will not include the Alex Ferguson owned Nureyev colt Zentsov Street whose debut has been delayed by a couple of weeks.

Another Nureyev colt, the Gowran winner Thady Quill, will take his chance in a Listed race though and he could get a boost to his form by the horse who finished third to him, Ezra, in the seven furlong maiden tonight.

Ezra has had a number of chances, however, and although La Rosetta hasn't run since mid-April, she did show enough when fourth to the Coventry winner Fasliyev at Leopardstown to suggest she can pick up a race of this type. Another filly, Haakool, who was runner up to Finnan at Tipperary over five furlongs, should appreciate the hike up in trip and looks the main danger.

The two-mile maiden features a number of decent National Hunt horses and while it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that the Darshaan gelding Larboreus will end up over obstacles, John Oxx can get him to land this based on an encouraging debut effort behind Genghis Khan at the Curragh.

Truscott looks a likely solution to the other flat maiden and the Ballinrobe third Ciel d'Or should go close in the Burke Handicap.
