TOMAS AN TSIODA made up for missing out on a run in the Goffs Million when winning the Derrinstown Stud EBF Birdcatcher Nursery at Naas yesterday.
Jim Bolger's charge was withdrawn from the Curragh race after getting upset in the stalls, but had no such problems yesterday and cruised into the lead over two furlongs out. Staying on well for Kevin Manning, the colt held off the challenge of Heart Of Fire, with Croisultan third.
Ger Flynn, Bolger's assistant, said: "The horse has had trouble with the stalls in the past. He was slowly away at Galway and was withdrawn from the Goffs Million. He was last in the stalls today and got away nicely which was ideal."
Later in the day Mad About You secured her first win of the season when romping to victory in the Listed Castlemartin Stud European Breeders' Fund Garnet Stakes. Dermot Weld's charge was tucked in behind the leaders and travelled well under Pat Smullen.
The 7 to 4 favourite cruised into the lead over two furlongs out and won comfortably by three and a half lengths from Kalidaha. Smullen who was in double form, has pulled two wins clear of Fran Berry on 76 and three in front of Johnny Murtagh in the process.
Meanwhile, Jim Bolger's Lush Lashes is likely to head for Hong Kong in December before connections decide whether the filly will stay in training next season.
