Aston Villa Villa had their work-permit application for Chivas's €3 million-rated USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan rejected.

Birmingham Manager Alex McLeish abandoned his hopes of signing Levan Tskitishvili after the Georgia international had his work permit application rejected by the British home office. Krystian Pearce and Arthur Krysiak left on loan deals to Port Vale and Gretna respectively.

LiverpoolLiverpool last night moved to deny reports that they have clinched a permanent deal for midfielder Javier Mascherano. It had been claimed that the Reds had agreed to pay €25 million for the Argentina international who has been on loan at Anfield for a year.
