Aston Villa Villa had their work-permit application for Chivas's €3 million-rated USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan rejected.

Birmingham Manager Alex McLeish abandoned his hopes of signing Levan Tskitishvili after the Georgia international had his work permit application rejected by the British home office. Krystian Pearce and Arthur Krysiak left on loan deals to Port Vale and Gretna respectively.

Bolton Bolton have signed Poland striker Grzegorz Rasiak on loan from Southampton until the end of the season. The 29-year-old has experience at the top level, having worn the colours Tottenham and Derby. Lubomir Michalik has joined Leeds for an undisclosed fee.

CelticCeltic completed the signing of Dundee United captain Barry Robson for €1.7 million. As part of the deal for the 29-year-old midfielder, Celtic have allowed Republic of Ireland underage forward Jim O'Brien go to Tannadice on loan. Ben Hutchinson has joined from Middlesbrough.

FulhamFormer Liverpool playmaker Jari Litmanen (36) has joined Fulham until the end of the season. Manager Roy Hodgson has also brought in Litmanen's Finnish international team-mate Toni Kallio. LiverpoolLiverpool last night moved to deny reports that they have clinched a permanent deal for midfielder Javier Mascherano. It had been claimed that the Reds had agreed to pay €25 million for the Argentina international who has been on loan at Anfield for a year.

Manchester City City signed Ecuadorian international Felipe Caicedo (19) from FC Basel in a deal believed to be worth €7 million. Midfielder Ousmane Dabo returned to Lazio for an undisclosed fee. The 30-year-old Frenchman joined from the Rome club in June 2006 but failed to make an impact.

MiddlesbroughBrazilian international Afonso Alves (27) has moved to Middlesbrough after being granted a work permit. Manager Gareth Southgate has let 21-year-old midfielder Matthew Bates go to Norwich on loan.

Newcastle Newcastle United defender David Rozehnal has joined Lazio on loan for the rest of the season. Newcastle tied up the signing of 17-year-old Atalanta star Fabio Zamblera, who is an Italian underage international.
