IT took extra time to separate Waterford RTC and Sligo RTC in a gripping Sigerson Cup quarter-final tie at the St Saviour's grounds in Waterford yesterday.

High winds ensured low scoring, but there was plenty of excitement as there was never any more than a couple of points between the sides.

In the end, it was the brilliance of midfielder Eamonn O'Hara and left-half forward Noel O'Donoghue which swung matters in favour of Sligo.

A goal from a penalty by Liam O'Brien sent Waterford on their way to a 1-2 to 0-3 interval lead and it was tit for tat throughout the second period of normal time at the end of which, the score stood: 1-5 to 0-8.
