SCOTT McCARRON shot a three-under-par final round 69 to claim his second victory in his third season on the USPGA Tour, winning the BellSouth Classic by three shots in Duluth, Georgia yesterday.

McCarron won the £180,00 first prize with a 72-hole total of 274, 14 under par on the hilly, TPC Sugarloaf Country Club course.

There was a three-way tie for second between David Duval, Brian Henninger and Lee Janzen at 277. Duval closed with a 72 while Henninger and Janzen posted 68.

Nick Price fired a 70 to tie for fifth at 278, while Hal Sutton shot a 67, Greg Norman 68 and David Toms 71.

Norman, the designer of the course north of Atlanta, made a final day charge finding himself only one shot off the lead before taking a double-bogey six on the 17th.

Mandy Sutton's decision to give up a career in banking paid off when she took the £13,500 winner's prize in the Estoril Open in Portugal yesterday.

Sutton, 33, shot a final round of 71 for a five-under-par aggregate of 202 to finish one stroke ahead of Denmark's Karina Orum. Australian Shani Waugh, winner in Portugal last year, finished third.

Sutton had won only a modest £7,045 in her first two years on the Tour but she never looked back alter shooting a course record 63 in the first round.

She was three shots clear of Orum with two holes to play but the Dane birdied the 17th from eight feet when Sutton, in a divot with her drive, dropped a shot.

With two putts to win the title on the last green Sutton ran her first attempt three feet past the hole but holed the return to seal her first victory.

"I gave up my career in the City because I wanted to find out how good I could become at golf," said Sutton. "It feels great to win but I can't believe that I have done it."

The Irish trio finished outside the cut which came at nine-over par 147. Aideen Rogers had a second round of 77 which left her on 150, one ahead of Maureen Madill, with Tracy Eakin on 159 following a 76.
