On July 22nd 1962, Gary Player captured the USPGA Championship for the first time. With a two-under-par aggregate of 278 on the 7,045-yard stretch at Aronimink GC, Pennsylvania, Player held off a late challenge from Bob Goalby for a one-stroke victory and top prize of $13,000.
