• LEAGUE OF IRELAND:Drogheda United are set to follow Cork City into examinership next week, reports Emmet Malone.
The club is expected to go to the High Court on Tuesday with the aim of becoming the third club to avail of a process that offers temporary protection from creditors so that ways of saving a business can be explored. The move, if confirmed, will almost certainly result in the club being docked 10 points.
Club chairman Vincent Hoey, meanwhile, has likened the planning process to a game of "snakes and ladders" after the latest blow to the club's long-running attempt to build a new stadium outside the town brought United's financial difficulties to a head.
Meanwhile, Galway United will look to continue the recent improvement in their form against Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds this evening as Jeff Kenna's side seek a much-needed win to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation at the end of the season.
Both managers have close to full-strength squads. Galway are missing Jonathan Keane through suspension and Paul Cook is waiting to assess the fitness of Chris Butler. Steve Fenney is again available but Romuld Boco is on international duty with Benin.
In the First Division, Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely has everyone bar Damien Brennan available to him for the trip to Athlone Town, where the Dubliners will be chasing the win that would keep them firmly in the hunt for promotion.
At Dalymount Park tomorrow, meanwhile, a string of former Ireland internationals will be among those turning out for Kevin Hunt's testimonial game.
The international XI will play a side made up of some of Bohemians' leading players from the last decade (kick-off 3pm).
