Morgan hits a century to crush Bangladesh's hopes
CRICKET: A first England century is usually a moment for a batsman to savour, but Dubliner Eoin Morgan admitted the landmark did not even register as he smashed the tourists back from the brink to win the second one-day international against Bangladesh.
Morgan hit a masterful 110 not out to carry England past their target of 261 with seven balls to spare and only two wickets in hand after the Tigers had bowled themselves into pole position.
The result secured a series win with one game to play. Morgan moved beyond three figures for the first time in England colours – although he also has an ODI ton for Ireland – during a penultimate over that he thrashed for 16, but did not even raise his bat to mark the occasion. Instead he heaved Shafiul Islam for six to win the match and silence the home crowd.
“It’s my first hundred for England and that is obviously a great experience,” said Morgan
St Colman's reach Ulster decider
GAELIC GAMES: St Pats Dungannons surrendered their Ulster Schools Senior title as they were edged out 2-9 to 1-8 by St Colmans Newry in the MacRory Cup semi-final at Casement Park last night.
Two goals from Tony McGreevy helped the Newry side race into a 2-1 to one point lead, although Conor McAliskeys goal helped Dungannon level at 1-5 to 2-2 by half-time.
Four second-half points by Chris Clarke helped St Colmans pull clear.
St Colman’s now await the winners of tonight’s second semi-final – between St Marys Magherafelt and Omagh CBS at Celtic Park.
Hart takes over at Crystal Palace
SOCCER: New Crystal Palace manager Paul Hart has warned Neil Warnock none of his former club's players will be joining the Yorkshireman at QPR.
Hart, (56), was yesterday appointed to the Championship club on a contract until the end of the season after Warnock quit to take over at Rangers.
Warnock has inevitably been linked with loan moves for the likes of 17-goal top-scorer Darren Ambrose, fellow midfielder Neil Danns and young defender Nathaniel Clyne.
But Hart insisted: “No players will be leaving this club between now and the end of the season.”
Coincidentally, Hart was appointed Rangers boss soon after his sacking at Portsmouth earlier this season, but he lasted less than a month before walking out.
Palace are above the relegation zone on goal difference alone after they were deducted 10 points for going into administration in January.
Hart feels he can repeat the trick he managed in his first season at Fratton Park, when he kept Pompey up after taking over with 14 games to play – the same number of matches Palace have left now.
