Sideline ban a headache for Carr

The GAA's Games Administration Committee (GAC) has banned Dublin football manager Tom Carr from the pitch enclosure for tomorrow's All-Ireland quarter-final replay with Kerry at Semple Stadium.

The one-match suspension, imposed at Wednesday night's meeting of the Games Administration Committee, is "for contravening the match regulations" during the drawn game at the same venue last Saturday - but it may not be the end of the matter for Carr.

The Dublin boss was suspended for intruding on the pitch and remonstrating with referee Michael Curley after a free had been awarded against Dublin in the second half, but this finding does not fully conclude the committee's findings arising from Curley's report.

"Matters arising from the referees report will be addressed under the GAA's disciplinary procedures," the GAC states.

Rule 138 of the Official Guide dealing with suspensions and misconduct refers to any type of physical interference (e.g. laying a hand or pushing, pulling or jostling) - the suspension is 24 weeks.

Video evidence indicates that Mayo linesman Mick Daly may have been jostled during the incident, but it was felt that it would be contrary to natural justice for Carr to be denied a personal hearing.

Dublin selector John O'Leary is likely to be delegated Carr's sideline duties tomorrow.

Wicklow intermediate hurler, John O'Neill was suspended for eight weeks and Offaly's John Ryan, who was sent off in the All-Ireland junior football championship semi-final against Mayo, has incurred a four-week suspension.

Former Antrim football manager John Morrison has added his name to the list of those expressing interest in the job of Armagh football manager, following the resignation of Brian McAlinden and Brian Canavan. Joe Kernan, the former Armagh player, remains the favourite for the position that will be filled before the end of the month.

Tickets for tomorrow's big games between Kerry and Dublin in Thurles, Meath and Westmeath in Croke Park and Sunday's All-Ireland hurling semi-final between Wexford and Tipperary in Croke Park will go on sale in the GAA ticket office at the rear of the Cusack stand between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today.
