ALAN SHEARER created English soccer history when he scored a brace in Blackburn's 3-2 win over Wimbledon at Ewood Park last night. The goals brought the England striker over the 30 league goal mark in the top flight for the third year in a row an all time English record.

Shearer, who goes into hospital for an operation on a troublesome groin injury today, signed off in spectacular style. Afterwards, his manager Ray Harford said "How do we replace him Alan's record is tremendous and he was very aware of the history. It was fitting the crowd made such a big thing of it.

"There was no plan to take him off at any stage and with a hat trick on he wouldn't have let us anyway. He has played with the injury for some time and only he really knows the extent of the problem but feels the time is right to sort it out. His first goal was truly terrific."

Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear quipped "I'd hate to see him when he's fit he's one hell of a player. When I heard he was going in for an operation on Thursday I tried to get the fixture changed"
