EMMA ROBINSON, of Coleraine, a breast stroke specialist, shocked the British audience with a winning time of 60.85 secs in the loo metres free style in the Scottish National Championships in Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth School yesterday. Niamh Cawley of Claremorris was fourth in 62.54 seconds, and Gail Hamilton, of Ards, fifth in 62.68 seconds.
Colin Louth, of Cormorant won the 200 metres butterfly in two minutes 6.69 seconds, a fraction outside his own month old record. Louth believes he should win an Olympic place on this performance.
Tuam's Mary Corless continued to improve her breast stroke form. She finished second in the 200 metres in two minutes 43.21 seconds, coming ever closer to the Irish record of two minutes 36.86 seconds. In the men's 50 metre breast stroke, Niall Moraghan, of Trojan was second in 71.09 seconds, while Cormorant's Graham Beegan was seventh.
