Postponed tie may be played on Wednesday

The FAI Cup second round replay between Finn Harps and Galway United, which was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Ballybofey, will be played next Wednesday evening, if the FAI's cup committee agrees to the new arrangement.

The game was called off yesterday after an early morning inspection. The pitch had already become unplayable and, due to the persistent rain, was unlikely to improve. Finn Harps are hopeful that game against Drogheda, scheduled for Saturday, will go ahead. "This was our third postponement in five weeks," said Harps manager Charlie McGeever yesterday, "but we managed to play the Bray and Derry games the next day which says a lot about the pitch. One decent, dry day with a bit of wind and it can recover from virtually anything, so with a bit of luck there'll be no problems."

Kilkenny, meanwhile, travel to Dublin this evening to play Shelbourne. The game was brought forward 24 hours at the behest of RTE. City have had a difficult league campaign and are well adrift of 10th-placed team UCD. They need an exceptionally good run and a collapse by the students in order to stay up.
