Niall Quinn: Sunderland and Republic Of Ireland striker

"Equalling Frank Stapleton's international goal-scoring record for the Republic of Ireland in the Giants Stadium last summer was my own personal highlight, and something I will always remember. But I'm a big horse racing fan as well, so to see Istabraq do the three-in-a-row in the Champions Hurdle at Cheltenham was a huge occasion for me. He is just a mega-legend in racing now, and that achievement will always stand out for me. I also watched all the Sydney Olympic Games, and the big highlight there was to see Sonia O'Sullivan come so near to the gold in the 5,000 metres. But it was also a great run and certainly one of my sporting memories of the year."
