Nick Barmby's dream move to Liverpool has been overshadowed by the news that club captain Jamie Redknapp will be out until Christmas.

Barmby completed his Anfield medical yesterday, but the club have revealed that next week Redknapp will undergo knee surgery that could sideline him for five months.

Coming on the day that £6 million Barmby checked into Anfield, the loss of Redknapp is a bitter blow for boss Gerard Houllier.

St Johnstone defender Alan Kernaghan is to meet with manager Sandy Clark in an attempt to thrash out his future at the club.
