An unfortunate typo appeared in the statement issued this week by the Croke Parksanctioned Players' Committee following the Gaelic Players' Association's rebellious announcement of corporate sponsorship of a number of top GAA players.

The statement, which described the GPA as a greedy minority, read: "We are confident in our ability to affect (my italics) real change where it is needed and are indebted to those officials within the CLCG who have facilitated and supported us to this end."

According to the dictionary, affect could mean to `infect or attack as a disease" and `to make a show or pretence of."

Surely that's not what was meant.
