CARLOW SHC FINAL/Naomh Eoin 0-10 Mt Leinster Rangers 1-7:THE WILLIE O'Connor Cup went unclaimed at the end of yesterday's final as Naomh Eoin of Myshall battled back from late arrears of three points to force a draw through an injury-time point from a long-range free by captain Dwain Kavanagh.
Naomh Eoin had the better of the opening and led 0-4 to 0-1. Rangers slowly gained a foothold but it took a brilliant save by goalie Frank Foley to deny full forward Robbie Foley a goal on 23 minutes. Five minutes later Foley drove a 28th minute penalty to the net as Rangers led 1-4 to 0-5 at half time.
Rangers looked likely winners for most of the second half but the Myshall side battled back. With free-taker Brian “Red” Murphy keeping them in touch they had their reward with that late leveller from man of the match Kavanagh.
