KERRY FINALLY put the heart break of last year's final defeat behind them when they recorded a two point win over Tyrone to take the Vocational Schools Inter county Football Final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh yesterday.
Kerry were beaten by a point in last year's decider with the last kick of the game but they made no mistake this time as they dominated the proceedings.
Playing with a strong wind in the first half, Kerry's half time lead of two points looked scarcely enough as Tyrone took to the pitch on the resumption full of ambition and drive.
However, Tyrone may have planned without the intervention of Kerry's immaculate wing forward Liam Murphy, who immediately put Kerry back on the offensive with a brilliant point. Kerry then went from strength to strength and further points from John Sugrue and John Golden stretched their lead.
Tyrone were far from finished, however, and they reopened the game as a contest with points from Kevin Hughes and Frank McGuigan.
But Kerry refused to allow their advantage slip and again regained the upper hand. Once ahead they went on to set up the first Kerry win of the afternoon.
