SENIORS TOUR: England's Carl Mason inched one step closer to winning a third consecutive European Seniors Tour Order of Merit title when he carded a four-under-par 68 that leaves him two shots off the lead after the first round of the Castellon Costa Azahar Open de España at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo yesterday.
Mason goes into the second round tied with Bob Boyd, Bruce Heuchan and Mike Miller two shots behind overnight leaders Giuseppi Cali, Delroy Cambridge, Terry Gale, Jim Rhodes and Alan Tapie and one shot adrift of Spanish rookie Jose Rivero.
It also gives him a great chance to extend his current slender €8,529 lead over the absent Sam Torrance at the top of the Seniors Tour money list.
Cork's Denis O'Sullivan heads the Irish challenge on two under par 72 while Eddie Polland is two shots further back on level par, Eamoon Darcy is on 75 and John Curtis on 76.
CHALLENGE TOUR: England's David Dixon matched Denny Lucas's first round of seven-under-par 65 to join his fellow countryman at the top of the European Challenge Tour's Open de Toulouse leaderboard.
With just three events remaining on the Challenge Tour Schedule and every player in the field having something to play for - be it a place in the all important top 20, the security of a place in the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final or their Challenge Tour status for next year, there are going to be some nervous golfers in Toulouse over the coming weekend.

Colm Moriarty is well off the pace on 146 after a second round 74 while Tim Rice improved by five shots for a 155 total.
PGA TOUR: American John Huston returned an error-free six-under 66 to grab a one-shot lead over South Korea's KJ Choi after the second round at the Greensboro Classic in North Carolina yesterday.
Huston, who began the day at Forest Oaks Country Club four shots back of overnight leader Charles Warren, has had just one bogey through two rounds to sit on 12-under 132.
Choi had just one blemish on his card mixing a bogey on the par-four fifth with four birdies for a three-under 69 to reach 11-under 133 at the midway point of the $5 million event.
Sitting three-shots off the pace are South African Tim Clark (69) and 2003 champion Shigeki Maruyama of Japan (65), John Rollins (69) and England's Justin Rose (66) at nine-under 135.
Warren, who opened with a course record 62, slipped back into the pack with a two-over 74 joining Swedes Carl Pettersson (67) and Daniel Chopra (69) at eight-under 136.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Bruce Summerhays takes a one-shot lead into the second round of the SAS Championship in Prestonwood CC, Cary, North Carolina.
Summerhays fired a six-under-par 66 to lead by two from Gil Morgan and Scott Simpson with Lonnie Nielsen, Danny Edwards, Bruce Lietzke and Hale Irwin next on 69
