FBD FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Galway 4-9 Sligo 0-12GALWAY WRAPPED up their FBD League campaign with a win at Tuam Stadium yesterday as former minor star Michael Martin blasted home two excellent goals.
Neither Alan Mulholland or his former Galway colleague Kevin Walsh had anything worthwhile to play for, but it turned out to be a useful exercise for both managers.
Galway got off to a lightning start when Nicky Joyce scored a goal after just 40 seconds, but then Martin took centrestage.
His first goal was superb – fired into the top corner from 20 metres – and he added a second four minutes before half-time to put Galway 3-4 to 0-6 up at the break.
Sligo used wind advantage to recover in the second half, with Adrian Marren and teenager Niall Murphy impressing. But any notions of a comeback were dismissed when Mark Hehir added another goal.
