Hurling: Loughmore-Castleiney last night won their appeal to the Munster Council GAC against their suspension from the Tipperary senior hurling championship. They had refused to play extra-time in their quarter-final against Toomevara last weekend.
They won their appeal on a technicality in that in having made their decision the Tipperary GAC failed to ask for a proposal and seconder in making their decision. It is now likely that the replay of their quarter-final will go ahead on Monday.
Darts: Roland Scholten pulled his best darts to beat John Part 6-3 in the first semi-final of the Paddy Power World Grand Prix at CityWest. Lancaster's Alan "The Iceman" Warriner was handed a reprieve by "Diamond" Dave Askew in the second semi-final, when after going 2-0 up against the "Iceman" Askew capitulated completely to let Warriner take the match 6-2.
Cycling: Tommy Evans yesterday recorded yet another strong performance in the Herald Sun Tour pro-am stage race in Australia, finishing seventh on the 13th leg of the world-ranked race. At the end of the 36-kilometre criterium in Hamilton, Evans finished 30 seconds behind stage winner Brett Lancaster.
Golf: Davis Love III surged into the lead after the second round of the $3.4 million Buick Challenge yesterday with a 10-under-par 62 to reach 14-under at Callaway Gardens Resort in Georgia.
Former PGA champion Love leads first-round co-leader Vijay Singh of Fiji and Chris DiMarco by one stroke.
World number three Love began the round four shots off the lead but quickly made up ground as he went out in five-under 31, and then matched that effort with five more birdies on the back nine, including three in a row from the turn.
