Leinster followed up their clean sweep over Connacht with another impressive performance in beating Munster 7 1/2 2 1/2 in the AIB Women's Interprovincial Championship at Donegal Golf Club, Murvagh, yesterday.
However, despite the five-point winning margin, Leinster number one and Irish Close champion Lillian Behan lost her eight match unbeaten record when losing in both foursomes and singles.
Playing immaculate golf from tee to green in the difficult conditions with partner Elaine Dowdall, Behan's problems lay on the greens and a number of three putts contributed largely to their 5 and 4 loss to Barbara Hackett and Orla Barry in the foursomes. In the afternoon singles the problems continued for Behan as she crashed for the second time to Hackett 4 and 3.
Leinster, however, are still on course to retain their title after wins from Suzanne O'Brien, Yvonne Cassidy, Elaine Dowdall, Oonagh Purfield and Hazel Kavanagh.
Connacht shocked Ulster by taking the foursomes 2-1 but could only manage three halved matches in the singles from Eileen MacMullen, Suzanne Corcoran and Ruth MacGuigan as Ulster went on to a 6 1/2 3 1/2 victory.
