UCD goalkeeper Gerrard Barron, making his first appearance of the season for the students following injury, did well to keep a John Russell shot out on 12 minutes as Paul Cook’s side continued to exert their superiority.

Dwayne Wilson and Keith Ward were involved in a promising move for the visitors after 17 minutes but Ward failed to find the target.

Ciarán Kilduff sent Paul Corry clear of his markers on 21 minutes but Richard Brush in the home goal made a comfortable save.

The deadlock was broken in the 28th minute when Amond beat Barron with a crisp shot from close range.

Sligo then missed a great chance to double their advantage when Joseph Ndo was off-target from a couple of yards.

UCD enjoyed a brief spell of dominance towards the end of the half, but Dillon came closest to putting the home side farther in front two minutes from half-time.
