Limerick's plan
Limerick 37 revealed last night that they are at an advanced stage of talks with an Irish American businessman and lawyer, Jack McCarthy, regarding a takeover of the first division club, writes Emmet Malone.
McCarthy, whose family roots are in Co Clare and Kilkenny, has long been involved in football in the United States having played for Princeton University. "I have reached an agreement in principle with Limerick 37 and, after due diligence and the construction of a debt management programme, I am confident that it will go through," said McCarthy.
Quinn set to move
Alan Quinn was last night on the verge of completing a permanent move from Sheffield United to Ipswich Town, just days after the two clubs agreed a one-month loan deal for the Republic of Ireland midfielder, writes Emmet Malone. With a fee already agreed, the Dubliner, who signed a new three-year contract with United last summer, was in talks over personal terms with Ipswich yesterday.
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton, meanwhile, has denied that the club has accepted an offer from Burnley for Irish striker Alan Lee but confirmed that George O'Callaghan is to be released from his contract, with Cork City his expected destination.
Brazilian for Spurs
Tottenham are set to sign Gilberto from German club Hertha Berlin - bringing an end to their recent policy of targeting younger players. The Brazilian is a left-back who can operate in midfield and at 31 will be one of the most experienced members of Juande Ramos' squad when the paperwork is completed.
Kendrick signs
Following the departure of full back Simon Webb League of Ireland champions Drogheda United have signed former Irish underage international Joe Kendrick from English Conference side Workington.
The former Newcastle and Darlington defender passed a medical yesterday.
