MAYO SHC FINAL/Ballyhaunis 1-19 Westport 1-6:BALLYHAUNIS MADE it four-in-row as they ended the hopes of a Westport side who were bidding to bridge a 41-year gap since they won their last title at McHale Park, Castlebar, on Saturday.

Dual-star Keith Higgins was a key figure for the winners, scoring six first-half points to set them up nicely with an interval lead of 0-10 to 0-3, all the Westport scores coming from Stephen Broderick.

Westport needed a goal to kick-start their efforts but came up against a rock-solid Ballyhaunis defensive wall, their only goal a mere consolation from Rory Brennan in the last minute.

In the end, the superior pedigree and scoring power of Ballyhaunis was never in doubt. They have now won eight of the last 10 finals and seem destined to extend that record even further.
