WALES manager Bobby Gould believes fresh guidelines governing the availability of players are needed to prevent international friendlies being devalued.

Gould admits his original 20 man squad for tomorrow's friendly international against the Republic of Ireland in Cardiff has been "decimated" by the loss of seven players.

A combination of injury withdrawals and re arranged club fixtures has led to Ryan Giggs, Dean Saunders, Nathan Blake, Steve Jenkins, Robbie Page, Andy Marriott and Christian Edwards dropping out.

"The structure of international football has got to be reviewed. There is not enough foresight and the situation has to be confronted," Gould said.
